31 Dec 2004 12:12 am - First Comic
Welcome to the world of tomorrow! This is the first ever comic. It's New Years Eve in Australia, where I live, and in about an hour it will be next year.
This is my comic. Its name is Soap, and it has Satan in it. I'm Peter C. Hayward. My new years resolution for this year is to keep this comic consistently updated for the year of '05, and if I can do that, then I shall be quite chuffed with myself. I'm Australian, and yes, I'm a kangaroo-riding convict.
This site, I figure I might mention, is run by the Kamikaze Comic Manager, and all non-comic images were drawn by my friend whom I know only as "M". She may or may not be John Cleese. I'm hosting the comic on my own space, on which I host my other sites. I hope you enjoy the comic; come back Wednesday, and there shall be a new one.

| 04 Jan 2005 12:08 am - The characters have history!?
Well, reading through the archives of Joe and Monkey, I notice that in his first newspost he explains the history of his comic. I shall thus explain that while the human in this comic doesn't have a history, the Robot does.
Basically, when I was little (littler than I am now), I invented a superhero. His name was "Superdum", primarily because he was stupid (i.e. "Dumb") and I couldn't spell. At his initial conception, his enemy was "The walls", because he would always run into them, and his superpower was his magical hat. This hat could turn into anything (including walls).
When I got the computer-game-creating-program "Klik 'n' Play" and subsequently its sequel "The Game Factory", 90% of my games were of Superdum. In these days I had gotten rid of the silly hat and the enemy of walls, however his new enemy was..."Supersmart". How original. I'll open MS Paint and show how Superdum and Supersmart were drawn.
Complicated design, as you can see. Superdum is on the left, and Supersmart is on the right. Superdum has blue hair, and Supersmart has black hair.
I'll skip forward to the crux of the story, otherwise this newspost will go on forever.
When I was in Grades 3-6, I used to play "The Superpersons" with my friends in the playground. I would play both Superdum and Supersmart, and everyone else made up their own characters. For whatever reason, I made up a character for one of my friends, Sean, and he was a robot. The Robot character in the comic is the one I invented. He has a name (all the characters except Satan have full names and histories) and special powers, as you'll be seeing in the next few comics (ooooh...ominous.) I'm trying to keep the comics backlogged for when school comes back, and I'm currently 10 comics ahead. So if I can keep this going, you won't ever miss out on your Soapy goodness.

| 04 Jan 2005 01:17 am - Buzzcomix
Well, I just went and got a nifty new "Vote for Soap" button. You can see it underneath the links on the right there. Personally, I'm quite happy with my rank of 4281, but if you think I deserve better, feel free to vote.
Also, I finally fixed up the problem with the archive pages. If I continue to churn out comics at the rate I am now, I might switch to a "thrice a week" update system, however it's unlikely that I shall continue at a constant churning rate.
Lastly, due to my server (Godaddy) being in America, the comic looks like it's being updated on Tuesdays and Saturdays. But we all know that it's really only updated on Wednesdays and Sundays, don't we guys? Yeah, that's right. We'll show that stupid server.
| 08 Jan 2005 12:07 am - Big plans. Big. Plans.
I had big plans for this comic. I promised myself that if I could get 5 comics fully drawn, then I would change the updating schedule to thrice weekly, instead of twice weekly. Unfortunately, then my scanner went on the blink. Perhaps it's not meant to be...
But if I can get a fairly large chunk of comics drawn up on the computer (I have about 25 written, it's making them all computerised that takes time) before I go back to school, then I shall alter the comic's updating schedule. If not, I won't, because I plan to be focussing on school this year far more than is good to me.
There's no real point in me telling you all this, I just thought it'd fill up space.
End newspost.
| 11 Jan 2005 08:44 am - Sorry this is late..
Hi every one *waves*! I'm Elizabeth, Peters sister. I did mean to put this up at midnight, but my coputers screen wouldn't turn on. I don't really feel like rambling on about nothing just because theres lots of room to do it so I won't. Goodbye! *waves*
| 15 Jan 2005 12:03 am - Come and sing me a supper.
Well, a few things.
1) Isn't it great being on a camp which rquires that you get les than 4 houts /every/ night! Woo SMADD!
2) The forums will be up as soon as I get around to learning phpBB
3) I shall try to get out of this habit of posting more than once every few days- one newspost per comic is good enough for me.
End Newspost.
| 18 Jan 2005 12:14 am - Long and rambling illness.
I'm not sure why I'm so admantant on updating this at midnight. It's not like anyone is actually reading the comic. For example, right now I'm sick, so when I went to bed early, I first set my alarm to midnight, and then updated. I should be sleeping. Last update is another good example of that- it was illegible. I was in bed with my cousin when the alarm went off, waking both of us up, and I hastily typed a news update, checked that it had all uploaded according to plan, and promptly went back to bed. With my cousin. Yeah, that'll keep you puzzling for a while, won't it, non-existant readers?
In other, vaguely comic-related news, I got a forum up and running. I doubt anyone will join, but it seems to be the cool thing to do. It's primarily a Chainsaw Bloke related forum, but there is a bit there for Soap, so if you want to prove me wrong when I say no one's reading this, go ahead.
The reason (and I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before, and I'm too tired to actually check) that I'm not bothered if anyone reads this years worth of comics is because this isn't the best I can do. The only reason these comics even make it onto the web is a vague attempt to gain at least a small following. I'm writing and drawing these comics in order to improve my writing/drawing skill. You see, I have a plan for a comic that I know would be great. It's called "Eyes" or "Eyez" or something trendy like that, and I tried to draw it, but realised that
a) I can't draw and
b) I have no experience writing/drawing a webcomic.
So these comics are, in fact, purely for me. If I can stick to a regular updating schedule, improve my drawing, improve my writing, or even one of those three, then I'll consider this comic a success. If by some random fluke we get voted #1 of Buzzcomix, then so be it. That being said, I do plan to send this comic to at least...5....of the sites that I like.
The other thing that is comic-related (these newsposts are getting to be longer and more frequently updated than my poor neglected LJ is that my scanner is stuffed. So while I am still...*checks*...5 comics ahead, I'm going to have to get my act together quickly, and my scanner fixed.
Man. 5 comics is so much less than I expected.
In other non-comic related news, (am I the only one who saw that and thought "Hang on! I changed where the hyphen was!) I got the Sims 2 today. It's amazing. It doesn't work on my laptop, so I'm spending all day in my sister's room, watching her play while I cough phlegm up and my throat hurts and I die.
End newspost.
| 22 Jan 2005 09:55 pm - Late? Nope. Early.
If you're me, which I've heard that a large percentage of my audience is, then you may notice that this comic is a good 22 hours late. Well, I assure you, it is not. It is, in fact, 2 hours early.
You see, when I decided on my Sunday/Wednesday Schedule, it was because Sunday night is the end of the weekend, and at my school we get Wednesday off a few hours early. So before I had the whole "backlog of comic" plan (which is going swimmingly...I haven't drawn a single comic since I started updating. I'm hoping to get about 5 done tomorrow.) the plan was that those were the days I would have time. However that doesn't work if you update on the 12 midnight at the beginning of those days. So I'm moving it so that I update on Sunday nights and Wednesday nights. Both school nights, conveniently.
My plan for school nights is to do what I'm doing now, and just update at 10pm. It's not midnight, no, but if anything, you get the comic earlier. So what are you complaining about? Huh, punk?
Oh, and we still have a forum that's sitting unused at the moment.
| 26 Jan 2005 04:09 pm - Hmmm.
I updated my comic as normal last night, and now when I check up on it, it's not here. So I'm reupdating it. I can't remember what I said in my newspost, but I assure you, it was probably immensely witty and amusing.
I need sleep, and chocolate milk.
End rather short newspost.
| 29 Jan 2005 09:38 pm - Fan art!
Well, I don't have a lengthy but interesting newspost planned, so instead, here is some fan art!!!!
Our first piece of fan art comes from the lovely Becci. In it, it might say that I forced her to make it. But that would be a blatant lie! For if I forced her to do it, then it's not really fan art, is it? Therefore I can't have forced her.
And our second (and last) piece of fanart comes from the equally lovely Chintz. Chintz is not a boy, which is what you might suspect. Shame on you for suspecting such things of lovely Chintz.
So there we have it. I couldn't have drawn Guy in anime style better myself. Both Chintz and Becci are truly rocking people, even if I do kick their behinds at Trivia.
People, if you send me fan art, then you can secretly slip your website onto it! Gasp! Free advertising! So email me your fan art, and it goes straight into a news post!
And if I get more than 10, I'll even make a fan art page. Come on. It's not hard to draw better than me...why not have a go at drawing a sexy calculator?
And in case you're interested, the text on the book there says "The One Number to Rule Them All"
End newspost.
More fan art!
Man, when I said that Chintz was awesome on Sunday, that was a serious understatement. She has returned with yet another awesome piece of crazy artwork!
(image missing)
That's right, it's a Sony 8100 from comic #10. And how well drawn it is too.
Well, this is a short newspost, because I have a ridiculous amount of homework. I drew another comic today, and plan to get about 5 more done on the weekend. These ones are quite image-heavy, so look forward to seeing them in a week or two! Huzzah!
End newspost.
| 05 Feb 2005 10:09 pm - MORE FANART!?!?!?
Wow. My fans are the bestest. I put out a cry for fanart, and I get 3 more pieces! I'll spread them out over the next 3 updates. Y'know. So that I seem cooler. But to begin with, here is some fanart from my sister, Elizabeth. I'm up later than I should be, HTMLing her a site, because she's starting her own comic which I shall be linking to when it's up. I've already seen her first Season of comics, and there's not one that didn't make me laugh. But perhaps you have a more normal sense of humour....
Anyway, the fanart. It's of Guy talking to a snail, and it reflects her sense of humour perfectly. A sense of humour which I consider hilarious. But you might not.
Oh, right. The fan art.
Haha. Made me laugh, anyway.
Oh, and in regards to todays comic...what can I do but apologise? I think that Guy looks fantastic, but the robot...ugh. And the punchline was hilarious at 2am when I wrote it, but now...
Anyway. Enough making you hate my comic. Trust me, next time's comic is going to be great. It took me 4 hours to draw, which could just be a reflection of how easily I get distracted, but I like it.
Also, next comic, there will be a new page: Downloads! I have a wallpaper and a set of 7 avatars for download so far, and there'll be more when I make ....more. Stupid sister...keeping me up all night making her a site.
As always, feel free to email me!
End newspost.
| 08 Feb 2005 10:10 pm - More fanart, downloads.
Well, I don't have a lot to say. If I had gotten the 4 comics I had planned to do today, then this comic would update thrice weekly instead of twice. But I didn't, so it won't.
Oh, right. Fanart! This is my favourite piece so far- by my good friend Viki! It portrays Guy and the robot if they had existed in medieval times.
She has asked me to warn you that the robot's hands are NOT screwed up, that they are in fact covered by gauntlets. To continue with the medieval theme.
As for today's comic, it's my favourite so far, and is in fact the beginning of Soap's first story arc. It's not the first story arc I've written, but it's the first one that's been drawn thus far. I was going through my comics trying to find the missing part of the first story arc I wrote, and discovered that I have in fact written FIFTY comics. I have thus far drawn 15, there are 12 online, but I've written fifty. Insane.
In other news, the downloads page is up. So far it contains a background called "Question City", and 7 different Soap avatars.
Yes, I am aware that the only wallpaper available for download is not soap-related at all. But check it out...it's question city!
Last but not least, I made a new linking banner. I'll stick it here for now, but it can also be retrieved from the links page.
Is it a bad sign when your sister considers the banners funnier than the comic?
End newspost.
| 12 Feb 2005 09:53 pm - Fan art (just for something different) and....stuff.
Man. What a cool and realistically proportioned grocery store that one is. I would certainly send whoever drew that a million billion dollars and draw them some fan art, would not you? Eth?
In other news, this is the last piece of fanart I have on backlog. Send me some more, and you too will get flattered in the newspost! You know you want to...
Today's fan art is by Scott. Scott is what I would consider a personal comic god. He was the one who first introduced me to Questionable Content (before QC, I only ever read Squidi. I had checked out a few (such as Bigger than Cheese and 8-bit theatre) and not liked them, so I figured that Squidi was the only good webcomic in the universe. As it happens, it's the best webcomic in the universe, but there are hundreds of really good comics. So I owe Scott a lot. He would have introduced me to Squidi, as well, if another friend hadn't gotten in first. I think it was either QC or Theater Hopper which inspired me to start my own comic. I'm not sure...
Anyway, as well as being a personal comic god, he's a really nice (if short) bloke, and I'm sure he has an enormous penis. So here is his fan art.
(image missing)
Don't ask. Really. Just don't ask.
In other news, I, um, haven't actually got a conclusion to this story arc yet. It goes on for a bit, so I am confident I shall eventually have a conclusion. Then I'm not sure whether to do ANOTHER story arc before I bring our mate Stan back, or to bring him back sooner rather than later. Tell me what you think I should do.
End newspost.
| 15 Feb 2005 10:52 pm - No fanart today, my wife has gone away...
Hellooo! I have been working hard all day on my Film and TV assignment, and by "working hard" I secretly mean "I did a bit." I have a lot of trouble getting motivated to do things lately, and I have never yet done well on a Film and TV assignment that I didn't do the night before. To rephrase that, I only ever do well on Film and TV assignments if I do them the night before. And if I do them the night before, I do well. DAMN well.
Anyway, tonight, the subject of my newspost will be an RP forum that some online friends of mine started up. You see, I didn't actually design this site. My online friend "M" did. She drew all those nifty little "back, next" images and the banner up the top, which has received much imagination. Anyway, my online friend M, and my best online friend Sarah have a little forum called "Fearnot" (for some bizarre reason.) and I said I'd host it for them, because I'm such a lovely person.
ANYWAY. The point is, if you're interested in RPing (roleplaying.) then go to http://fearnot.thechainsawblokes.com and you're guaranteed a good RP. The style is "modern/dark", so if that means something to you, go right ahead.
I still haven't drawn any new comics, so after this one, I'm stuffed. Hopefully I'll get some drawn up some afternoon, as this weekend I'm going to a 2-day seminar. Gneeee. (that was a nice little stressed sound. You pronounce the g.)
I have the end of this story arc written now, I just need to draw it. Quite frankly, I don't think anyone would notice if I just copied and pasted images, so I might end up doing that, breaking my tradition of drawing each comic individually. Alas, poor work ethic, I knew him well. Or something.
In other news (I'm writing this in an attempt to put off any sort of work) I've got a children's book on the go. It's very clever and revolutionary and all that, and my friend James will be (hopefully) illustrating it for me. It sounds strange, me being the artist of a webcomic, but (and you may have noticed this) I can't actually draw. But I feel that I can write fairly well (ignore the comic's writing, and go check out my fictionpress site instead. That's where I keep all of my "gems". I also keep all of my crap there, so it's a mixed bag. My particular favourites at the moment are Words and The Tales of Johnny and Liam.
I'm also writing a book called "Dragons and Vampires." I'm also writing an extremely long newspost, and crapping on about nothing in particular. I think I'll stop now, before I alienate all 4 of my readers.
Oh, and by the way- if you read this far, could you vote? It doesn't really mean much, but next month I plan to vote every day, and get a guaranteed 30 votes, but if someone other than me was voting as well, I might even get 31 votes. Thus far I've received about 3 hits from Buzzcomix, so that's not too shabby.
End newspost.
| 19 Feb 2005 08:39 pm - Seminar
Well, I just had a 2 day seminar on how to be a "super-student" and be motivated and study. I thought it was bloody terrific, and well worth however much my parents paid for me to go.
Anyway, that's a fairly dull topic. The only reason I mention it is that it went from 9-4 today and yesterday. Add on to that two 5-day school weeks, and it means I have 12 days straight without a break. So I'm rather stuffed.
One thing it did do that could be vaguely relevant is make me realise that lying in bed and using my laptop probably wasn't overly intelligent. So I moved my laptop to a desk, and now I'm sitting up. You know. Like a person.
Oooh! Good thing I remembered. I made another background. It's available in the downloads section, which is convenient, because in order to properly take advantage of it, you have to download it.
It's actually Soap-related this time (gasp) and came about since I was mucking around with MS Paint and wondering what Guy and the robot would look like if they were sprites. So that's the basic theme.
Um, I'm really really tired now, so I'm going to bed.
Oh, and I was going through the archives (to backup these brilliant newsposts) and I noticed that two comics were posted twice. Each. So I deleted them. As a result, there's holes in the numbers. It goes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, etc. Isn't that great?
So if I ever reach a landmark like "100th comic" or something, just remind me of those gaps. I'll probably ignore you, but you can feel superior to me for a few minutes at least.
This comic never fails to make me giggle, by the way. Just felt you should know that.
End Newspost.
| 22 Feb 2005 10:12 pm - Exhaustion
Whew. Today was a big day. Not at all helped by the fact that last night I stayed up late reading.
I just watched Little Britain, and I think that as the series goes on, it's getting progressively worse. I'll probably keep watching it though. That's their entire marketing strategy, I theorise....get you hooked, then, um...continue. And you're already hooked.
Tomorrow I'm buying the first season of Buffy. I've never seen an episode, but my plan is to buy the first season ($26AU for a 3-disc set isn't bad) and if I like that, continue buying. Until I'm a slave to consumerism.
Damnit. I keep going into "conspiracy theorist" mode. The fact is, I'm just tired from being too busy. And watching 4 episodes of Family Guy today, which I probably shouldn't have done. But on the plus side, I finished my English assignment.
Oh! That brings me to my next point. As of this point, I have officially run out of comics. I have none in backlog, so unless I catch up again, I'm going to have to start the age-old way of doing comics, which is to "draw them on the night I update". Hopefully this weekend I'll get some done.
School, man. Where did we go wrong? It seems like just yesterday we were setting fire to Strong Sad's underwears. This one's for you.
Oh, and this also concludes my first attempt at a storyline, also me trying to branch out into "less crap" art, and different formats. I don't think I have a set format that works for me yet, so I'll just be switching between them. I think that's the way it should be though...infinite canvas. And my "humour" doesn't seem to like a set number of panels.
End Newspost. (Just the claps!)
| 26 Feb 2005 10:26 pm - Go away, I hate you.
I'm doing an assignment at the mo', so no newspost for you. Nyah nyah nyah.
I did draw a comic today as well, so I'm set until next weekend.
I apologise for the art in this one, I was in a hurry. My friend Jack says that "It's funnier than any of the others", so I hope that makes up for it. I'll leave it as a reminder to myself never to run out of backlog again.
Oh, I forgot to mention last time- that brilliant ending to the storyline (where they were still inside the whale? You remember that?) was the reason why they had no background for all the preceding comics. I wasn't sure if I'd use that ending, but I decided to keep my options open. That's the reason I was messing with the format- partially to draw your attention away from the lack of back, and partially because I just plain like messing with the format of comics. Wooo boogey boogey.
End Newspost.
| 01 Mar 2005 10:27 pm - Guest comic!
Hmmm. Looks like the robot hasn't lost his strange hovering ability.
In other news, I got a guest comic published on one of my favourite comics- Chris & Trilby. Scroll down to the bottom, and look for the name with extra sexy attached. Yes ,that's right. Peter C. Hayward. No, don't click on the name! That'll just bring you back here....great. Now look what you've done. Well, while you're here, we might as well play backgammon. No, don't take off your clothes! I...gah! I just washed that.
Sorry. I am extremely tired. I went to sleep at 4am last night, having finally finished my monster film and TV assignment. It ended up at 2687 words, which I think is a bit long, but I haven't gotten the draft back yet. I'll post the storyboards up in the download section when I'm done. Y'know. Because you clearly need to see my storyboard.
And before anyone mentions it, yes, I realise that my guest comic isn't actually funny. I've been told that. But it's, um...character based humour. And I quite like the way that Chris turned out.
And yes, I know that this comic isn't funny. Or particularly good artistically. But it's...circular! Check out its circular-ness. Osity.
And yes, I realise that this newspost isn't particularly funny. But these aren't written in advance. This is an example of my spontaneous humour. My spontaneous, sleep deprived humour. My spontaneous, not actually amusing, sleep deprived humour.
I watched Amelie tonight. It was good. Although I was surprised when the guy answered the phone with "Hello?" instead of "Bonjour" or "Salut" or "Oui oui oui!"
Oh, that's the other thing. I'm considering adding a voting incentive every time I update the strip. Because I often find myself editing it halfway through making it, and laughing at the results, then having to change it. If I use it as voting incentive, then I don't have to get rid of it.
I'm still pondering at this point. Ponder ponder ponder. *ponders*
Send me fanart!
End Newspost.
| 05 Mar 2005 10:09 pm - Sheesh.
I have seriously got to get a backlog again. I just finished this comic then, which means I don't get to look at it a few days later and see if it's still vaguely amusing. On the plus side, I'm quite happy with the art. Now I have an 800 word assignment to complete. And then school tomorrow.
Oh, and last newspost, I forgot to link to the constantly brilliant Men in Hats.
Lastly, I've decided to go with Vote Incentives! Woo! Basically it's just any little ideas that I have while drawing the comic. Because this is the first one, you get TWO! That's right, two!
So just click on the little button on the left there, and you get to see two things from this week's comic. One of them is in the comic up there ^^^^ as well, but it's too small to see!
Wheeeeee!
End the latest in my increasingly short series of newspost(s).
| 08 Mar 2005 08:18 pm - Sleep.
I know this comic is dodgy. I really, really do. The reason I'm posting it is due to a variety of reasons.
- I don't have a backlog, so I don't have time to remake it.
- It's one of the early, early early comics that I drew. Written around the same time as the brilliant first nine comics.
- I'm clearing my folder out of any comics that refer to the fact that they don't move much, or change the background. Next comic will explain why they have only moved their hands like twice up to this point! The reason I'm clearing my comic folder out of these is because I'm planning to...gasp! Improve my artistry! Yes, I was talking to a comic God about my comic, and he suggested less use of the "Ctrl C and Ctrl V" buttons. As God commands, I shall obey.
- I need sleep.
The fact is, I've been sick and busy lately. Not a good combination. So I still don't have a backlog, but developing one is my goal for this weekend.
Um, I had something else to say.
Oh, right! Go and vote! New vote incentive up! I'm going to edit it so that the archive pages each have a link to the incentive of that day. Which will be a problem for the first 19, but I figure I'll put some random sketches in. I've been sketching a lot lately. That will probably happen when/if I get a scanner. So, um, buy me a scanner.
That's all.
Vote!
End newspost.
| 12 Mar 2005 09:50 pm - Short newspost. Just for something different.
Well, again I'm going to have to leave a short newspost here. And again this comic was frantically put together now, instead of being on a convenient backlog. And again, there is a cool vote incentive. So vote, even if the image is inexplicably broken.
On the plus side, I'm quite happy with how this comic turned out.
End "The shortest of them all" Newspost.
| 15 Mar 2005 09:54 pm - The Dawning of a new age.
Woooo boogey boogey boogey. This comic is the last one before I try....
A new art-style!!
As you may have noticed (but probably not, because it's ever-so-subtle), this comic is mainly copy and paste. Yes, I know. Surprising, isn't it?
Anyway, Zach Millar from Joe and Monkey and I were chatting (yeah, that's right. I was talking to a comic god. Don't you all want to have my babies now? Particularly you, Degan.) and he said that my comic was good, but I should try a bit more variety. So from the next comic onwards, I'm going to try drawing each frame individually. I'll be more like Theater Hopper and less like No 4th Wall to Break. Both are equally good comics, which is why I never bothered with a decent art style to begin with.
Anyway. To celebrate my no longer being lazy, here is what is quite possibly the laziest comic ever.
Vote for me! I swear, I'll find out what's wrong with that button some day.
Infinite caaaanvaaaassss.....
End Newspost.
| 20 Mar 2005 12:45 am - Geh.
I am. SO TIRED.
Just finished comic. I realise that the art isn't great. Or the joke. But I spent a good 4 hours or more on it. Each frame was individually drawn.
I figure that if I keep updating this way, i.e. each panel drawn seperately, then while short term the art will be worse, long term it will be better.
And this is the start of a story-line. Just for the record.
Check out the vote incentive for the original hand-drawn goodness. Including a detailed drawing of the back of an xbox controller. Today's vote incentive is 1.04 MB. Good.
End. News. Post.
| 23 Mar 2005 12:14 am - Whew.
I'm much happier with the art for this one. Last comic's art was rather terrible, I admit. This one took me slightly more time, and I'm less tired. So I'm happy with the art for this one.
Annoyingly, I finished drawing the comic and then couldn't find the script. I knew roughly the punchline, but I wanted it to be exact. So at the suggestion of my friend Becci, I wrote a new script.
I think that's all I have to say...what are people thinking of the new art? In terms of individual panels, I'd have to say it's slightly worse, but overall there's more art. It's kind of quantity over quality. I'm mixed over it. Hopefully I'll get better quickly, and we can have the same character-quality as in the earlier comics, and decent backgrounds/movement as well.
Robot hovering! Woo!
Oh, and vote to find out the meaning of the word "Vituperation." What a conveniently lazy voting incentive, hey? Both for you and me. It adds some extra zing to the punchline, I feel.
End Newspost. Woo.
| 27 Mar 2005 12:29 am - Fan art! The most commonly used news title I have!
Yes, that's right. It's "Peter convinced someone to draw him some fan art" time! Today's fan art comes from my sexy sexy cousin, the other Chainsaw Bloke, the one, the only, the two, the...GAVIN!!!!
Today Gavin has taken "Guy" and tried to turn him into Cats, from the "All Your Base" video. Gavin loves taking people and turning them into that guy. I was going to post another one he's edited, but I can't find it. So here we go...
I also have some fanart from another friend of mine, PK (i.e. CG), but I shall be posting that next time.
Speaking of things comic-related, I'm actually quite happy with today's comic. Really happy. I think that it all just meshes nicely. It's simple, but sexy. Just like me. Check out my awesome shadow artwork there in panel 2. Vote to see that panel slightly adapted. It's a dodgy vote incentive tonight, but I think it's a good comic. So that should make up for it.
Next time I remember/have time, I will edit the archives so that you can see each vote incentive individually. I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before.
I climbed a mountain today. That was fun. I also had a migraine earlier, so instead of drawing a comic, I played Risk II for a while, but then when I eventually got around to drawing the comic, I was happy with it. As I said.
Beddy-bye time now for the Peter. Well, maybe I'll hang around and chat with cute European girls I know for a while first..
End Newspost.
Ugh.
So. Tired.
I completely forgot about even drawing a comic until about 10:10pm. So for the last 2 hours straight, I've been working on this one.
I know I have fanart, but it shall wait until next post to be...posted.
Interestingly, this comic is an adaption of the script that I lost the other day. The original script (with the same pictures) is available as a vote incentive. I actually prefer it, but vote, and you'll see why it was impossible to use.
Haha, I have no idea what's going on in Guy's fridge. Look at it...it's crazy!
End tired tired tired newspost.
Tired. Sleep now.
Well, this comic proves that I hate myself. It's 2am, and I have a big exam in 3 days. Go Peter!
I'm happy with this one. Um...that's all.
Melbourne Comedy Fest was on tonight. It was strange...Adam Hills, for example, used his two minutes to talk about bad body image. It wasn't primarily funny...he put a few jokes in, but he was using his 15 minutes of fame to try to make a difference. I really admire Adam Hills.
And breasts. I really admire breasts. Just in a different way.
Well, that's my intelligence for tonight. Wasn't it...intelligent?
I rather like my style of drawing. Dunno if anyone else does. But it's a nice mix of floating heads and proper backgrounds, and I think it works for me. Of course, I also compare Adam Hills to breasts in my comic's newspost, so there you go.
Vote!
Oh, bugger. Fan art. It'll come when I make a backlog. People, remind me to make a backlog! I cannot stress that enough!
End ridiculously tired newspost.
| 05 Apr 2005 11:08 pm - Doodly dum.
I was told that I whinge too much in these newsposts, so I shall refrain from telling you that a) I'm not happy with the last panel, but what can you do
b) I drew a different comic, wasn't happy with it, scrapped it, and started again
c) I have a Maths C exam tomorrow, which I'm not completely confident about. and
d) I still don't have a backlog
Instead, this newspost will be full of happy stuff. Like...the fact that this storyline is ending, and after one or two gag comics, I will be starting a new story arc...bringing back everyone's favourite character, Stan. Woo! Go Stan!
Stan is the horny devil from the first comic. Look forward to his return. Look forward indeed.
And for the people who keep bugging me about the fanart- when I get a backlog, I'll post the fanart. So instead of bugging me about fanart, bug me about backlog.
Well, I'm off to bed in order to be well-rested for the exam tomorrow. Wish me luck! Hot, naked, soapy luck.
End newspost.
| 09 Apr 2005 09:36 pm - Laziness to the i to the t to the m.
Well, this comic is just pure condensed laziness. Can something be pure AND condensed? It seems logical, but perhaps not.
Anyway, there is a reason behind my laziness here.
Actually, no there isn't. Sometimes I'm just lazy. HOWEVER, I did make up my mind about something. Stories that are part of a plot, such as the recent anennae plot, will be fully featured background comics. Gag, one-off comics, such as this one, will be copy and paste. That way I can be lazy and still improve my art. Or something.
Anyway, I have another Maths C exam tomorrow, so I'm going to cut this short. And go and edit my film and TV assignment. More next time...maybe.
End newspost.
| 12 Apr 2005 10:56 pm - Some fan art, because I'm feeling generous.
Haha. I really enjoy running a webcomic. To begin with, I get fanart, which is sometimes pretty cool. The characters that I invented being drawn by other people. 'Tis an interesting experience.
While I'm in this rather happy mood, I'm going to post up some fan art. Next time I have nothing to do, I plan to update
a) The layout of the site
b) The links down the side, to get rid of the non-working Buzzcomix thing, and add the forum
c) Each comic, so that the vote incentive is linked to.
d) A page for fanart. I have a lot of fanart. It's because I'm awesome, and you all secretly want to have sex with me. Or perhaps because YOU'RE all awesome, and I secretly want to have sex with YOU.
Anyway. The fanart.
She informs me that she doesn't get it either.
(2 comics until the start of the "Return of Santa" storyline.)
End Newspost.
| 16 Apr 2005 11:45 pm - Breasts! Hehehe.
Well, I just spent the last few minutes editing pictures of girls so that they look like faces. Because, you know. Girls don't look like faces at all.
You'll have to vote if you want to know what I'm on about this time. Haha!
Anyway, I'm quite happy with Guy's expression in that last panel there. The rest of it isn't bad either, but I actually had Guy with a line before I drew that, and I had to rewrite the comic around it. It took ever so long. And now I shall die.
*dies*
End death-inducing Newspost.
P.S. One more comic until the return of Satan! And, as always, when I start a storyline, we go back to full backgrounds, which might mean a slightly lower art-standard, but it means we take the American route of "quantity over quality." Interestingly enough, this will coincide with my 33rd comic, which Jeph Jacques informs me is the point where most webcomic artists give up. This has to be my longest P.S. ever.
| 19 Apr 2005 11:08 pm - I was almost so efficient.
I started this comic on Monday, hoping that I could also finish it on Monday, and thus have something vaguely resembling a backlog. However I couldn't be bothered drawing Guy (drawing the robot is much easier, but with Guy, I have to sketch him on paper, get him onto the computer, and go over him. Then extensively edit.) and so I put it off until tonight. Well, I was going to do it last night, but I ended up watching 4 or 5 hours of TV, and going to Maths Tutorials instead.
So here's todays comic. Sunday's comic marks...
The Return of Satan!!!
So until then, I hate you all and hope that you die.
End surprisingly malevolent Newspost.
P.S. I don't know what malevolent means.
| 24 Apr 2005 03:21 pm - Happy 33rd Comic!
To celebrate the thirty third comic, I figured I'd update a day late. Yes, that's right. This day-late update was COMPLETELY intentional. Haha. Yeah.
Okay, here's what really happened- I fell asleep last night watching Lost in Translation (which, by the way, has to be one of the most dull movies I've ever seen) at 7pm, which is not a time I expected to fall asleep at. I then proceeded to sleep for 16 hours, waking up at 11am.
If it helps at all, I actually dreamt about the comic. I had a weird dream that I was going through my archives, and the comic was no longer allowed to be called a kid-friendly comic, because I'd used the f-word in it a few times.
So that was nice.
In punishment for myself, I'm going to get the next two comics drawn. Today. This means putting off an assignment that I think is due in the next two weeks which I haven't even looked at yet. That's what I get for breaking my New Year's Resolution.
On the plus side, check it out! Satan! Woo!
End Newspost.
| 26 Apr 2005 10:22 pm - On time.
Gaspeth. Look at that. A comic that's on time for once.
In the first panel there, I actually covered the beach in all these individual grains of sand. However then when I resized it, you couldn't see any of it.
Also, while I still think that the Satan from the first comic is my greatest Satan ever, I'm happier with today's Satan than yesterday's Satan.
Today's comic is of a genre that I like to call "Satanic monologue." It may not be extremely funny, but I feel that it fleshes out Satan's character. And seriously, who doesn't like a comic that fleshes out Satan's character?
I've always liked Satan. He was always my favourite fictional Biblical character, except for Peter, who rocks. From his first appearence in the Garden of Eden through to his appearances in Dogma and Bedazzled, I've always felt he's one of the more interesting ones out there. Thus the monologue.
Well, I think I've justified the comic enough for today. I've actually put up a voting incentive today; I stopped for a while, because I figured that no one but me voted, and I hadn't bothered to vote lately. However this month we've gotten 17 votes, which either means one sad individual voted 17 times, or I've actually got 17 people reading this comic.
Either way, there's a new vote incentive up- my rockful cousin Gavin drew me some fanart, and I figured that I'd make you work to get it. Vote (that button on the menu at the side there) to see his artistic brilliance. You can see it without voting when I eventually get the fanart page up, but who knows when that'll be? Whooooo knoowwwwwssss?
End spoooooooooooky newspost.
| 30 Apr 2005 10:16 pm - Popsicles.
Well, you know how the old expression goes "Talking to yourself is the first sign of madness....and Peter's really sexy."
Today's comic, alas, does not feature Satan, much to the dismay of my female demographic. Admit it. You all think Satan is....hot. And we all know that he's....horny.
Man. I'm just full of comedy tonight.
I think I'll go now.
Oh, and there's a new voting incentive up.
End Newspost.
Short newspost, lazy comic.
Pardon the shortness of this newspost and the laziness of this comic, but I can't actually see. The last time I was like this, I got a massive migraine half an hour later. Full explanation next newspost, if I remember. No vote incentive, alas.
End blind newspost.
Ugh.
Still feeling crook. Sorry for copy and paste comic.
End sick Newspost.
Hiccup.
Still sickish. Busy more than anything: I'm meant to be doing my drama assignment- I was happily typing away, and I only remembered this an hour and 10 minutes ago. So pardon if it's a rush effort.
The fine comics being referenced in this are Questionable Content, Rob and Elliot and Hugh and Bot. In order that I discovered them. This comic was actually inspired while reading Hugh and Bot, which my cousin discovered while voting for this comic, and linked me to. Moral of the story? Vote for Soap, and....you're my cousin.
End Newspost.
| 15 May 2005 01:28 am - Pi pi pi pi pi pi pi pi pi pi pi.
Special thanks to http://3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592.com/ for this comic. I couldn't have done it without you.
Well, it's 1:10am, and I've just spent 2 days working on my Maths C assignment. For a good 8 hours now, I've puzzled over the intricacies of simple harmonic motion, pondered over the pendulum theory, and procrastinated over the second derivative of x with respect to time. Now it's finished, my 13 page killer assignment. Warning; it's fatal in any dosage whatsoever.
And then once I'd finished that, I had to do my drama essay.
However now they are both complete, so here I am, free to relax. Instead of relaxing, however, what do I do? That's right. I create a backlog.
You are listening to the proud owner of a backlog...of one. But hey, if I keep on at this rate, then I'll always have a backlog of one!
Today's comic seems a bit soap-opera-ish to me. Interestingly enough, I have a soap opera comic in the "written but not yet drawn" pile.
Perhaps enough maths will turn your brain to mush, and you become capable only of drawing soap opera webcomics. Who knows?
End tired and mathematical newspost.
P.S. If this comic's joke doesn't make sense to you, check out this old comic.
| 17 May 2005 11:41 pm - Nuttin' to say.
Um, here's a comic. I still haven't drawn the next one, but that's not due to laziness. That's due to me not having any idea where I'm going to go with this. Or, more accurately, having tons of ideas, but no decent punchlines. I'll work it out by Sunday, I hope.
End "40th comic" newspost.
| 22 May 2005 01:17 am - Writer's block.
Ever since my last update, I have suffered a severe case of writer's block. I simply could not work out how to resolve this storyline. I must have thought of 50 different ways, and either they didn't make sense, or the punchlines were dodgy. I think I have a rough idea of where I'm going now, after a few hours of hard thought today.
Hopefully today's comic is at least slightly funny. I'm quite happy with it artistically, with the exception of the robot. I don't think he looks particularly good.
If you check out No Fourth Wall to Break, I've got a guest panel coming up in his anniversary comic, which should be up fairly shortly. (It's not up at time of writing.)
Um, that's all. I think.
Now that I know roughtly where I'm going, I might be able to rebuild my backlog. I have been trying, but it's hard if you don't know what's going to happen in the next comic.
Thassall.
End newspost.
| 24 May 2005 10:57 pm - Last-ditch effort?
Sorry guys, another rushed job.
On the plus side, I got some positive feedback on my guest panel for No 4th Wall to Break. My mum said that I was much better than she expected, and a boy at school who I didn't even know read webcomics mentioned that he'd seen it. So that was pretty cool.
I have no idea what I was on when I said, in the last news post, that I was "happy" with the art. It didn't look particularly good. Or, in fact, very good at all. As Pythagoras himself said, "Using that neato function on Macromedia Flash isn't a good substitute for decent art....and Peter's really sexy."
I'm going to say again that I'm happy with the art here, however hopefully I won't regret it in a few days time.
End Newspost, I guess.
| 28 May 2005 09:40 pm - 43rd Comic!!!
That's right people, we finally reached it. The 43rd comic. I'd just like to give a shout out to some people here; without them, I would have done the comic anyway, but not put as much effort into it.
Degan: My best mate, Degan, has always been (brutally) honest with me. He's told me which comics made him laugh (I think we're up to about 3 or 4 out of the 43 so far) and he expects me to be up to Dilbert's standard, so I'm always trying to work harder. Thanks a heap, Degan.
Damon: Another good friend, Damon has enjoyed the comics slightly more than Degan did, and as such, ensured that I didn't just give up after 20 comics. He has also given me feedback, which was much appreciated. Kudos, Damon. Much Kudos.
Zach Miller: An internet god in his own right, Zach gave me some great advice on the comic once. I attempted to take this advice, and while the comic suffered in the short term, I feel that it's actually better, long-term. Thanks for that, Mr. Squid.
My sister: Elizabeth, for updating the comic for me when I'm on holidays, and for telling me if I'm being horrendously unfunny. She's the only person who gets to see the comic before it goes up, so her opinion is quite useful.
Everyone who has sent in fanart: Geez, you guys rock.
To celebrate this momentus occasion, today's comic showcases all of the speaking characters in the comic so far, from Cousin Frank to the Blue-Voiced guy. It's also the first time that Guy is referred to by name, and if it weren't for the fact that I couldn't get it working, would have been the first animated comic as well.
What's more, if Buzzcomix was working, I'd be putting all of the non-speaking characters in, from the Whale to the Dragon. And...well, I think that would be all. But wouldn't that be nice?
To finish this newspost off, if you're reading this comic, I really do appreciate it. Drop me a line some time if you like. I plan to continue doing this comic for another 43 at least.
End appreciative newspost.
P.S. Man! My 43rd comic! Can you believe it?
| 01 Jun 2005 12:56 am - Huzzah!
I am so happy to be out of that stupid storyline. I hereby vow never again to start a storyline unless I have the end worked out.
I'm being interviewed by the local paper tomorrow about Shakespeare, so I'll cut this newspost short and go to bed.
Very short.
End Newspost.
| 07 Jun 2005 10:59 pm - Whoops.
Didn't update on Sunday. Completely slipped my mind. Don't worry, I'll pay a penance. I'll work it out shortly.
Nate for bed, ebams tomorrow. Not to mention early morning jogging.
G'night!
End Newspost.
| 21 Jun 2005 10:46 pm - I'm Goin' on Hiatus, I'm gonna catch a big one.
As some of you have informed me, the comic hasn't been updating lately. This is for a few reasons
1) I did actually attempt to update, and discovered literally 4 days later that it hadn't worked. I don't want to update again until I work out what happened.
2) I have been forgetting to update on a frighteningly regular basis. I predict that a small hiatus will remedy this.
3) I have another, daily comic, that I'm starting, and I want to have a month-long backlog. So I'll do that before I start this again.
4) I have a fairly large site I'm working on, so I want to get that up and running. Soap and the other webcomic will be part of that site, so that kind of counts as working on this comic, right?
When I return, I plan to make up the numbers, updating once a day if necessary, until we get back to where we should be.
End Apology/Explanation.
